Counting my blessings!

DS went last weekend to Rhode Island to visit some buddies of his. Late Sunday night we got a frantic phone call from him...he was driving home and noticed some sparks coming up past his passenger side window. He heard a 'pop' and then his car started to die. Since he was in the left lane he tried to signal to the guy next to him that he had to get over to the shoulder and by the time he did, got the car parked and turned off and he got out, the car was filled with smoke and smoke was pouring out from the hood. He just grabbed his wallet, cell phone and work badge and got away from the car. Thank goodness he always drives with the window open more than most people because even though he got out quickly, his work badge that was on his visor was already starting to melt so the heat had to be pretty intense. As he was talking to us, it burst into flames. The fire department and police got there in about 5 minutes and what you see is what is left of his car. The inside is mostly melted. We still have no idea what caused it.

By the time we got him home (he was still about an hour away) it was around 4:30AM and it really had not sunk in yet. More excitement than anything. It wasn't until he went the next day to take some pictures that it really hit home how close it was! This was the first car he had that wasn't a real beater and he so loved this car! He was starting to put all those things in it that kids do. And, it was his baby. Also, the fact that his badge had already started to melt....I know I am in a highly emotional state but I have a hard time looking at him and not crying! I know that I will never complain again about being windblown and freezing while driving with him since if he didn't have that window open so much...well, I don't want to think about it. Like my title says...I am counting my blessings!

So, we have been dealing with this and the insurance company (Who have been great! Thank you , Geico! I mean...they have been awesome!) He is driving a rental and is looking for a new vehicle. This poor kid...with cars, if he didn't have bad luck, he would have no luck!

Onto blog business....I will be keeping memberships open through March. If you join for 3 months, you will get January/February and March even if you join on March 31st. The same for a 6 month membership plus getting the password for the next three months. I will have a new kit for you tomorrow to kick March off!

Until then....tata for now! Just wanted to give you an update!

His guardian angel was really watching over him! I'm so glad he
is safe and unhurt....cars can be
replaced, he can't be. I hope he will find a car he likes soon. I
know you were scared out of your mind. How wonderful that God takes such good care of us and our loved ones! ((HUGS)) Linda

Janice...
I've had my car catch fire before, but it happened while it was warming up in the midst of winter, so I was NOT in it. And my car was an old beater... so my roommate and I were blessed with meeting some mighty fine Firemen!!!
But hey... It's great to know that DS didn't get hurt. Smile...The weekend's almost here. ☺

Wow! So glad to hear that your son is OK. I can just imagine what a lump you must get in your throat when you think about what could have happened. He may not have any luck, but he sure has someone watching over him :) Wondering where in RI he was at the time as I'm RI born and raised and still live here :)
