What is happening to this world?
Our neighborhood is a quiet one for the most part. We all know one another and although we are not real close, in need, everyone pitches in. We stop and chat when out walking the dogs, lean over the fence when out doing yard work, shovel each other's sidewalks in the snow. Everyone keeps their yard and houses nice. We have our own parties but we are respectful of each other. If we know it is a real special occasion, we tolerate it being a little nosier or later than usual. Generally just a nice neighborhood...or it was.
Several houses on the street have been sold and have been turned into rental properties and have not attracted the most desirable people. Today, being a holiday weekend there were 2 big parties going on...no biggie...it's a holiday...celebrate! Have some fun! But, I live on a one way street, parking on one side only. Not today...people were parked like it was a parking lot. Still no biggie... a car could squeeze through carefully. The neighbors we know were all outside, chatting...lots to catch up on since we tend to hibernate when its cold. Towards evening we were getting a little tired of all the motorcycles and cars pulling holeshots down the street and the noise but it was still early so not much we could do about it. The cops had already been called several times during the day about it. The later it got, the worse it got. It was like we were having a block party that none of us had been invited to! Very drunk people walking all over the place, in every one's yards, foul language (and I am not a prude but it was even repulsive to me!), speeding cars and very loud chopper type bikes! Around 11:30 we heard someone really burning some rubber and then a lot of screaming and shouting. One of our neighbors was being attacked by 3 guys and a girl with a baseball bat! He had asked this group who was walking in front of his house if they knew who's car that was and apparently, they didn't think he had a right to know, words were exchanged and then they jumped him and his sister. When other neighbors started to come out, they ran off leaving him there.
We do not know if he is going to make it. His head was swollen almost immediately to twice its size, a portion of his skull was missing. They took him to Yale Trauma Center and the last word we had was that they had given him last rites and were talking to the family.
There were about 6 police cars that responded and they could get through the street but the ambulance could not. The people from theses parties were all milling around wondering what was going on but not doing anything about moving cars so that the ambulance could get down to where our neighbor was and then gave the cops a hard time when they were told to move the cars! Even with all the cops there, the parties went on in full volume and recklessness. I could not believe how callous and STUPID these people were! It was well after 1AM when the cops went to the 2 houses and told them to break it up. They were still talking to the people who had witnessed the attack...the parties never even paused! They went back to the houses after 2AM and told them again to break it up and then the "fun" really started. One after another the cars and bikes have been screeching down the street (still are as I type this) and all we have heard for over an hour is sirens!
What is wrong with people? When did we get so inconsiderate and self absorbed? We have little kids on this street and it is nothing to have cars going 50mph down it and a lot of the time..going the wrong way at that speed. There is no respect for each other, no respect for someone who is injured, no respect for the police or paramedics...I just could not believe what I was hearing coming out of these people's mouths! One guy actually told the cop that if he wanted the car moved to move it himself. He changed his mind when the cop turned to another cop and told him to get the car and ram it out of the way! Then this moron asked..."well, where can I park it? There aren't any spaces?" I give theses cops tonight a lot of credit...I think I would have taken my gun out and shot a few people! The whole scene was surreal!
The police thought they know who the girl was and someone said that they already had arrested her. From what the sister said she weighed about 400 lbs. so apparently she could not run very fast! I hope the get them all and lock them up until they are too old and senile to be a danger to anyone! Our neighbor is a "kid" about 27 years old who has turned his life around. He had just been in our garage earlier in the evening talking to my DH about his 2 little kids and how things were going good. He is one of the people that you just can't help liking. It is just unbelievable that in just a few moments something like this can happen in a "quiet" neighborhood. His parents were not even home when this all happened. My husband called them and told them to get right to Yale. Please, take a minute and say a prayer for him and his family.

"Oh My...What a nightmare it must of been!"
Situations like this would create thoughts into one's mind that they should buy the surrounding properties themselves to eliminate any kind of these scenes happening again.
It will take a while for all to recover from this lot, and I don't see a postive future while the hoodlems are living there.
Oh My God. I am so very sorry to hear about this. I will definitely be praying for your neighbor and his family.
OMG!!!!!!! The horror!! I'm so sorry for your neighbor. Needless to say he's in our thoughts and prayers and his family too. Hope they get the people who did this!
What a horrible thing....I hope they catch every single one of them...and if it were my rental property they would immediately be tossed out on their collective backsides. We will certainly keep your neightbor and his family in thoughts and prayers and please keep us updated.
My husband and I bought our house 10 years ago. When we moved in, it was a clean, well-kept neighborhood with mostly elderly people. It was wonderful! Then several of the sweet ladies, being in their 90s, were either put into nursing homes or passed away. Their homes were sold and unfortunately are now rented out to the less desireable. Since then, we have had to call the police out here on many occassions: fights, drinking, etc. Once, a man peeked into my daughters window late at night and scared her to death. We have even had a drunk driver crashed into our house! Oh, and my neighbors were selling drugs out of their home...they have thankfully been forced to move. My heart goes out to all of you. What do you do in situations such as this? Move? Call the police? Apparently, speaking to them about their behavior only gets you put into the hospital fighting for your life. It is not right, and it is not fair! Hearing stories like this one makes me so angry! Your right. Many people have lost all respect for others. Just remember that although there are people like this, there are just as many people that care and are concerned for other's well-being. Your neighbor and his family are in my prayers; as well as you and your other neighbors. Perhaps you and your better neighbors should start a neighborhood watch? Keep us updated on how things are going!
How terrible - I'll be praying for your neighbor and his family.
Prayers are being said...Hugs, Dee 8^)
:(
I've just now prayed.
I am sooo sorry you had to go through something as horrific as this.I will be praying for your neighbor and your neighborhood. No one deserves something like this to happen to a nice quiet neighborhood.I live in a quiet neighborhood too and can't imagine how upset I would be to have something like that happen.
How horrible, and yet a tragady revisited for me.
I'm sending up prayers for your neighbour and his family. Praying for a full recovery.
Many years ago during a world cup soccer event, when Italy was going against Brazil, my brother-in-law some some people playing soccer in the park behind his house, wanting to play he went out and asked if he could join in the festivities. Saddly he did not realize who they were. My b-i-l being Italian was asking to play soccer with a bunch of Brazilan men, and well they didn't like that. They started going at him, then one of the guys, stole a kid's bike, went over to the baseball diamond where a kids game was going on, stole a bat, and returned to hit a home run with my b-i-l's head, repeatedly. He died 3 times but they managed to bring him back. He was in a coma for 3-4 months, but and thank God came out of it. Saddly he has sever memory loss, and suffers sever seziures, as well has hearing loss. He was a wonderful singer, a career lost.
I pray your neighbour will recover fully with no lasting damage.
It saddens me to see things like this happen, such a sad thing.
Blessings, LR
Oh thats is so terrible. I know I wonder these days too what is the world coming too. I sure hope he can pull through this.
Jannidee I've got him & his family in my prayer's!
HOPE they get them all & that they go to jail for the rest of their lives!!!!!!!!
My husband died from brain damage because of his freak fall at the Firehouse & to this day I'm still pissed at the Dr. for telling me it wouldn't do any good to talk to him!
When I was in nursing school & to this day I've always believe that they can hear you! So I hope his family just keep talking to him & tell him how much he is loved!!!
More prayers for your injured neighbor, and also for you and the other families who live in the neighborhood. Blessings to each and every one of you.
You were living a nightmare last night and I'm so sorry you and others had to go through that. Since these people are morons, their parties could get even worse. It's so sad that a few can tear up an entire neighborhood. My prayers are with you and the man who was injured. You're right, what's this world coming to?
Oh my! What a horrible thing to happen. I am so sorry to hear that such a thing happened and I will keep your neighbor in my thoughts and prayers. I hope they can catch the ones who did this horrible crime.
I am so sorry. It seems impossible that your nice neighborhood could change so drastically. So many prayers are with your young neighbor and everyone in his family and all the neighbors who have been traumatized. Indeed, what is happening to this world?
Prayers for the fella and his family. You gave me chills reading this...
Oh Janni this is so sad and a parents worst nightmare and it is unfortuanely not an isolated incident in society. It is very much like the scene I imagine at the very party my son attended that landed him in a prison cell though neither of the 4 involved were innocents. Life is what is not respected today. It seems as if people, kids, teens just think it will be there no matter what they dont know how fast it can disappear and be changed or taken away in just the blink of an eye.
The rental property owners really need to be more careful of who they rent to also. I have lived in many areas where thats what made the difference one or two sold and more sold becuase of the changes and it made good places bad fast..your doing the right thing by going to the police, go to city hall and set up neighborhood watches. If you have to keep track of traffic to watch for drug activity...kinda sounds like they may be the type..
Hugs to you and prayers for your neighbor and his family

It is such a shame what has happened to this world. I am 27 years old and I was brought up to always respct other people and their property and they would in turn do the same. I wish I knew what went wrong with some people. I will keep your neighbor and you community in my prayers.
Oh wow just catching up on your blog & thats just horrible. Please keep us updated & your whole neighborhood will be in my family's thoughts & prayers.
First off, let me thank you for everything that you share with us in the scrapbooking community. Your designs are wonderful. Secondly, my heart goes out to your neighbor and to all of you that have had to endure this reckless behavior. I also live in a neighborhood like yours. But many years ago, the house across the street became a rental and. subsequently, a drug house. It took a long time to get rid of them. But seeing young girls go in the house finally got the police to shut it down. Band together and take pictures, logs and keep hounding the authorities and the owner of the house. Keep us informed.
My prayers go ou to your neighbor and to your neighboorhood. I have just baout quit reading the newspaper because it is one aweful thing after another going on around us. I feel that one thing we can do is raise children that know right from wrong and hope that they can make a difference.
I read this and my stomach turned. I cannot believe the cruelty and stupidity of some people. I use that term loosely because ones like that are more animals than human. My eyes filled with tears so I did the only thing I could. I prayed for that family. Thats about all anyone of us can do now and pray the police get them and prosecute them!
I am so sorry; that is so terrible!!! It's so sad that such things happens in this world. :o(
I will be praying for your neighbor and his family.
Blessings & Hugs to you!
I have been asking myself the same questions lately, what has heppended to people now adays. I am so scared for our children!
I'm so sorry to read what's happened in your neighbourhood :( and really, really sorry to read what's happened to your young neighbour. I hope and wish the best to him,
It's terrible the things you are telling about the neighbourhood. It's definitely a lack of care of the people in house and the landlords. Some of them just care about the property and the rent money and that's the end of it. :(
Best wishes to your neighbour and I hope and wish he gets better. Don't know what else to say. :(
Oh, Jannidee...I was having a bad day today but I feel like a silly fool after reading this post. I will be praying for your entire neighborhood...the "nutsos" who caused the problems and maybe killed a man in cold blood will most likely feel no remorse.
I really think I have ONE piece of the puzzle as to why so many behave as they do today. That is: A refusal to take responsibility for one's own actions!!!
It's always someone else's fault that is the cause...not their own decisions. We don't need to spend more money for schools...we need more students that want to learn...etc.
One of our daughters who dreamed of teaching when she retired from the Navy carefully picked a school in the region of our country where she wanted to live. She was reaching the slow learners but the ones who caught on faster thought they could stand in groups and talk loudly as she almost had to yell over them for them to sit so they could start class. The last straw was when one boy told her to "Hold your horses!!!"...she handed in her resignation. Every teacher that she saw at lunch said that if they had the retirement income she had they would quit with her. So why are the parents blaming the teachers??????
Did you hear about the teacher who was attacked by students recently..
tape over her mouth so she wouldn't scream.........sick, sick, sick!!!
Okay...I'll get off my soapbox...;o)
Oh My GOD!! This is absolutely horrible! My prayers are with that young man and his family. Lord I just ask that you watch over him and heal him if it is your will. If not, then send your Holy Spirit to give comfort to this family.
What a needless thing to happen. I agree with you Jannidee wholeheartedly about how callous people are. My neighborhood is not the best either and I live in a pretty small community, but there are things that happen here that shock and sadden me!
I pray that the owners of these rentals do something about the tenants they have. Unfortunately, a lot of people are about "the bottom line" and not about what's right.
God's blessings to you and your family.
I will be keeping your neighbor in my prayers...what a horrible thing to go through!!
Jannidee, I am keeping your neighbor in my thoughts and prayers. What a tragic situation. These people have no values what-so-ever. No values for human life.... so sad.
this is really awful, and unbelievable. I really do not understand people. At all. I am so sorry to hear this.
it is a true shame, how people act today! my thoughts and prayers are certainly with your neighbor! HUGS to you!! and thank you for the awesome freebies! stay strong, keep the faith, it will work out!
That is horrible, it really is unbelieveable what kinds of things people get away with nowadays. You should all take your neighborhood back. Get those people out of there and charge the people who actually own the homes with responsibility for the crime and I bet they become alot more careful about who they rent to next time. I will keep him in my prayers.
Really sorry to hear how your neighborhood has been turned upside down! That is so terrible what happened to your neighbor! I pray that he will recover! So sad! I hope your neighborhood does work things out so you can get rid of the kind of people that have moved into the area and are ruining your lives/neighborhood!
Wishing you all the best! Keeping everyone in my thoughts and prayers...
hi
unfortunately its getting like that all over. people work 2 jobs and perhaps goes to work also, just to have a slice of something nice. then, you come out of your house to go to work and there staring at you is some "undesirable" who has never held a job longer than a week (and thats being generous!) but thanks to the wonderful politicians who seem to feel that its ok to give these people for free what you and your husband have busted your butts for yeras! Ah..isnt life grand! Apparently for those who dont work and pay taxes it is! I have heard it time and time again.."oh, what a beautiful street this is"..and within days, this same person has cleaned his car out and threw the stuff on the sidewalk, when there was a pail not 2 feet away from him! Its s areal darn shame! I dont begrudge anyone anything..as long as they earned it. I am so tired of hearing from these people "how hared it is out there"..I truly feel for your neighbor, and I hope they recover quickly.

PS..sorry about the rant. Can you tell I'm upset?...you can tell by all the type-o's...lol You have lovely scraps, I didnt take any, I got caught up with the story about your neigbor, but I Thank you for sharing just the same. May PEACE take over your block! and I agree, these owners should start being held accountable, they dont even bother to screen these people. But in the long run, that home owner gets what he deserves..a busted up house thats beyond repair!..lol If these low-lives dont have a thought about humans..imagine what they think about everything else!
OK..sorry..I'm ranting again..have a good evening!

OMG!!!!how horroriable! my thoughts and prayers are with his family, as well as your neighbourhood.
take care susie2004
I'm so sorry to read about this. Makes you realize the true good and the true evil. I am so glad they got the girl. I can't imagine why she is the way she is. Pathetic creature. Too bad she won't learn how truly turn around her life. She won't be missed in society that's for sure! And I know you're neighborhood will make sure of that. I'll say some prayers for your neighbor's recovery. What a shame. I hope those raucous 'neighbors' are forced to move or be stifled for hendering a investigation by the police. That in itself is a crime. Dang, blocking an ambulance? Bad news.
Please let him know a lot of people are praying for him to get up and on with a great life.
Huggies,
Hilly.............btw......love your kits n goodies. Thank you hon!
